Unlock the Full Power of Your Data
The Is Searchable setting is a powerful feature in Engine Awesome that greatly enhances the usability of your fields. By enabling this setting on a field, you provide users with the ability to quickly filter, sort, and even perform calculations on the data within your application.
Create Filters
When a field is marked as searchable, it can be used in the Query Filters block. This allows you to set up filters that users can apply in their layouts, enabling them to easily drill down to find the exact information they need.
Enable Calculations
Fields marked as searchable can also be analyzed using the STAT block. This includes useful calculations such as Average, Sum, Minimum, and Maximum values for numerical fields. For example, you could use the STAT block to quickly view sales totals or average response times.
Sortable in List Tables
Another benefit of the Is Searchable setting is that it makes the field sortable within List Tables. Users will be able to click on the field heading to sort records based on the field’s values, allowing for better data exploration and reporting.
By leveraging the Is Searchable setting, you make your data easier to navigate, analyze, and act upon. This setting is particularly useful when dealing with large datasets where finding specific information or trends can save time and help make informed decisions. Whether you want to add filters, enable sorting, or use calculations to derive insights, marking a field as searchable helps unlock the full potential of your application.
NOTE: It’s important not to overuse the Is Searchable setting. Enabling this on every field can lead to unnecessary complexity and may impact performance. Instead, focus on marking only the fields that are critical for searching, filtering, or calculations. You can always go back and enable this setting on additional fields if you find it necessary.
